    Fall River
Words and music (c) Roger Hammer

We were dreaming in mountains of quiet
On the Big Thompson side of the park
While nearby Fall River Canyon was fighting
Its waters, pent up and dark

We were sleeping right next to the river
    Flowing happily and bubbling down
Not aware just how lucky we’d been there
At Stony Knob Cabin on the Big Tom

    Fall River, river fall
    Fall River, fiver fall

Just a few miles away at Fall River
    Where nobody was even awake
That ol’ crack in the dam started thinking
How it seemed like a good time to break

First it yawned like you do when you’re waking
And it stretched out its arms as you do
Then it opened up wide with a quaking
Sending ten million gallons on through

    Fall River, river fall
    Fall River, fiver fall

It came down to some serious trouble
With the worst flood they ever had seen
For the level in town still would double
Till the foundations started to lean

Downtown Estes was lost in an ocean
All the curios shops were marine
They said, “Surely Lake Estes can hold it.”
But of course that remained to be seen

    Fall River, river fall
    Fall River, fiver fall

For two special people that morning
Was the last they ever would see
They were camping in the way of Fall River
And the way of the river rules supreme

They were camping in the way of Fall River
And the way of the river rules supreme

    Fall River, river fall
    Fall River, fiver fall
