    Took A Walk

Words and Music © Roger Hammer

Took a walk the other day
Just to see what was there
    Thinking maybe that the scene
          Might decide to be somewhere

          How right could I be?
I found the place for me
Now I’m hoping you’ll join me for a while

    Along with you and me
I dreamed there’d be room for quite a few
    And if we get together
There will be so much that we can do

          How right could I be?
It’s just the place for we
Now we’re hoping you’ll join us for a while

Took a walk the other day
          Not expecting that I’d stay
Then kind of strangely I discovered
          I’d gone too far away

          How right could I be?
I found a space for me
Now I’m hoping you’ll join me for a while

    Don’t Ask Me

Words and Music © Roger Hammer

Don’t ask me where I am
    I don’t think it’s for knowin
    Lost my way yesterday
    And been traveling all night

Don’t ask me where I am
I got no way of sayin
    And there’s nobody near
That can tell me it will be all right

          I don’t know
          Where I’m gonna stay
          I don’t know
          Don’t ask me, I just can’t say

Don’t ask me where I’m goin
    I don’t think it’s for knowin
    Lost my way yesterday
    And been travelin all night

Don’t ask me where I’ve been
I got no way of sayin
    And there’s nobody near
That can tell me it will be all right

          I don’t know
          Where I’m gonna stay
          I don’t know
          Don’t ask me, I just can’t say

    Rainbow

Words and Music © Roger Hammer

I hear a rainbow of ever changing thoughts of foreign hue
          All so new
And more and more know I know that stranger things are often true
          Near to you

Before my eyes a dancing light of wonder
          Appears for them
                     for me
                     for you

Did I mistake it for all the others that could say no more
          Oh so poor
But never knowing I asked if time could pass on through my door
          Never more

Still shining on a never ending rainbow
          Appears for them
                     for me
                     for you

Things come and go now, though ever changing asking to be free
          Can’t you see
A smile is worthless compared to something more that wants to be
          Wait for me

And every time a newer kind of daylight
          Appears for them
                     for me
                     for you

    Lost World

Words and Music © Roger Hammer

    Where did the world go?
    Forgotten, it lost the way again;
How could the earth know, or reason:
Cold inhabitants swarm the ground now
See the rain, tell the weatherman how
          Running into one another
          But never touch each other
Parade, perform, and play the game, thinking
Well, it won’t change your mind into gold
You know it can’t be solde

    Where did the world go?
Remember where flowers used to be?
Now in the shadow of buildings
Reach toward the sky with steel
Fog the air so you know it’s real
Scorch the clouds with vapor trail
Reach the moon and make a sale
Cause progress makes us what we are:
Prisoners and castaways alone on our shore
To know yourself is a bore

    Where did the world go?
Forgotten, I’ve lost the way again
How could a man use his reason?
Bitter eyes crush the spirit free
Separate ways still do not agree
          Don’t ever trust your neighbor
          He might return the favor
And no one wants to be involved
Cycles and circles too are followed like a map
With lives caught in their trap

    Where did the world go?
It tells me it wants to live again
But in the spirit of loving
Next time round, people, let it shine
Use your sight and I’ll show you mine
And when the time is there
In a daydream you’ll find you care
To let the new lost world return
Silence (I hear none of the words you say)
                  Communicate that way

    Hangontowhat

Words and Music © Roger Hammer

Hang on to what you’ve got
We’ll make a start from there
    And in the coming night
    A basis to compare

Hang on to what you’ve got
    Small glimpse of memory
    Unfold the other mind
That brings you close to med

When you know that I would want to
Join the worlds that make a few
          So true

Hang on to what you’ve got
Be sure you know it’s right
    There’s nothing more to try
Just reach out for the light

Hand on to what you’ve got
(What do you want to be?)
    No explanation why

You and I now: we will
                  Decide for centuries to come
                  The message we will bring

Hang on to what you’ve got
Don’t hide the way you are
    Old repetition gone
Your new self come so far

Hang on to what you’ve got
    A destination found
    Toward the night of age
We’ll know where we’ve been bound

Hang on to what you’ve got
          It’s all you’ve got
Hang on to what you’ve got
          It’s all you’ve got

    And Three

Words and Music © Roger Hammer

Look over your shoulder; tell me what you see
I know we are seeing things the same
    Looking together, impossible but real
And now we can love her more

          Who’s walking by her side?
Who could keep up with her?

                  The danger, a stranger
                  And three

Look in my window; can you see what’s living?
Or is something missing in the scene?
    I can’t imagine why we haven’t noticed
That someone should be there too

          Who’s walking by her side?
Who could keep up with her?

                  The danger, a stranger
                  And three

We often wonder if this should be different
But this way we know we love you more
Who does she trust most?  What does it matter?
          We still would be satisfied

    Never Change

Words and Music © Roger Hammer

In the early dawn of something new to me
I see you there now and you walk and tell of
A timeless love that will be true to me

With the morning sun that keeps on shining through
Never caring what a man may sometime say or
Out of love be forced to do

You come to me and when I feel your touch I know
That this could never change and you would want to go

Through the day into another quiet night
Everywhere the growing presence telling of
A newer and a brighter light

Even darkness seems not quite so bad somehow
With our love we search and find another way where
    Simple things have meaning now

When we’re together something says it’s right I know
That this could never change and you would want to go

As the moon comes up we walk the lonely shore
Wondering how in all the shadows there is
Room beyond for so much more

And who knows if all this will fade away
When between us our decisions greet tomorrow,
Thank the past and last today

If every hope could be for what is best I know
That this could never change and you would want to go

    Please Listen

Words and Music © Roger Hammer

    Pleas won’t you listen
There’s so much crying in the street
    Please won’t you answer
    The epidemic of the hear

When the cries are not lonely
          The flocks are not sheep

The night’s too long to define
There is no room for a sign

    Please won’t you help me
I’ve lost myself to be here
    Please don’t forget me
In all the faces that you’re near

In the times of the living
          That beg, beg for more

The night’s too long to define
There is no room for a sign

    Please look around now
To see yourself and me:  the world
    Please, when you’ve found us
Defy the boulder that’s been hurled

It can crush all we offer:
          Relief from within

    Someday

Words and Music © Roger Hammer

    Someday when we can fly
          Needing more than earthly sight
    The feeling past the sky
And ever pulsing on so right

    If ever more is said
          Holding onto proven views
    The final note is led
          Approaching fewer distant hues
And bringing news to us, but not
If the same wind had forgot

    Someday when every height
In the earth begins to say
    I’ll know the reason why
          The future never stays away

    Today and in the past
Knowing all but what is meant
    We were ahead too fast
Just thinking time could not be spent
Was always sent for us to use
Never ask how much to choose

    Someday I don’t know when
          Still together for so long
    Higher still and waiting then
Before the sound could not be wrong

    But now to fade away
          Looking for a special place
    The chance comes once today
To see a finish to the race
A special case for us you see
If we ever find the key

    Miromor

Words and Music © Roger Hammer

Meet me somewhere, halfway to nowhere
Not too far ‘way for a ride
Make it somewhere far away up in the air
What’s the design? Got a village in the sky

          Miromor
          Miromor

Join me sometime, now or the meantime
Getting up there is the sport
Finding some time is no secret or crime
Taking it all with you though is tricky if you can

          Miromor
          Miromor

Meet me at Miromor, halfway to everywhere
The time is always just right
Find me in Miromor up in the clearer air
Where it’s been waiting between us all along

          Miromor
          Miromor
